Members

In recent years, Vocal has developed into a membership organisation, encouraging people with learning disabilities and communication difficulties who have used our advocacy service, to become involved in its development.

Our Members are at the heart of the organisation, and their input informs everything we do.

Our members, staff, volunteers and trustees meet quarterly to review the activities of the organisation and to plan future work. These meetings are also partly social events, where Members, Staff and Trustees can interact with each other.

We now have 25 active members, who are invited to attend bi-monthly meetings in Torbay, West Devon and Teignbridge, and we are working towards increasing this number.

Member’s participation includes: plans for local fund raising, producing our newsletter, contributing to advocacy awareness training sessions and expressing interest in becoming peer advocates. In time we look forward to some of them becoming trustees, but currently they do not feel ready for this.
